Deer Creek-Lamont Families, Staff and Community:
Today, we learned that Oklahoma students will not return to the classroom for the remainder of the current school year, following a vote by the state Board of Education. Instead, all districts, including Deer Creek-Lamont, will implement continuous learning plans that will allow students to complete the school year at home. State education and health officials believe this move will help our state fight the spread of COVID-19 and at this time everyone’s health is top priority.
We are sharing this information with you now so you can prepare accordingly for your family. We understand this change is in the best interest of everyone’s health, which is our greatest priority as a school. The state board’s vote also means that all extracurricular activities and special events will be canceled or postponed as well. Making these difficult decisions, we believe, is simply the right thing to do for our students, our staff and our community.
We do have good news: Deer Creek-Lamont is developing a plan to ensure your child will continue to have opportunities to learn and to grow academically, especially with parental support. We will spend the next week and a half planning for this effort and will share details with your family as soon as they are available.  We have great teachers and administrators who are working on ideas for this new phase.  We are confident that we have the resources to meet this challenge successfully with everyone working together.
For our seniors and their parents, we know it is an especially difficult time. We will do everything possible to ensure their efforts are recognized and celebrated in special and unique ways.
We have posted resources on our website, including information about free breakfasts and lunches for students under the age of 18, which will continue.  Please follow all guidelines of the CDC about protecting your health and the health of your loved ones and  (1) wash your hands regularly; (2) stay at home, if you can; and (3) practice social distancing of at least six feet from others.
This is an unprecedented situation, and it has required an unprecedented response. This is a community that sticks together in challenging times, and we know this experience will be no different. We will be giving direction regarding student materials that will need to be picked up in another message.  As soon as we identify our next steps, we will share them with you.
Please stay safe. We appreciate your support and we will get through this together.

7:00 PM

Deer Creek-Lamont Families, Staff and Community:

This afternoon the Oklahoma State Board of Education voted in favor of mandatory closure of all Oklahoma public schools from March 17 through April 6.  All activities are cancelled during this period of time as well.  We realize students and parents are disappointed to miss the activities scheduled during this mandatory closure time period and there are many questions.  We will provide updates and answers to questions as more information becomes available.

At this time, schools have been instructed by the State Department of Education not to provide instruction for students.  This is an unprecedented situation, and it continues to evolve by the hour.  Superintendent Hoffmeister will be holding a call with District leaders tomorrow at 2:00 PM to provide guidance to Oklahoma public schools.

There is nothing more important than the safety and health of our students, staff and community.  We want everyone to be safe and appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this time.  I pray for this situation to be resolved soon.

Deer Creek-Lamont HIgh School is communicating with parents of student who will be juniors during the 2019-2020 school year.

Our school district plans to administer the ACT test in spring 2020 to eligible juniors as part of the state contract with the Oklahoma State Department of Education and ACT.

Last year over 95% of Oklahoma schools selected to administer the ACT. Our district believes this is an excellent opportunity for all eleigible juniors to take the ACT at no cost to them or their families.

Additional information on why we chose the ACT can be found at 8 Reasons to Choose the ACT Test.
